Big Roo, big fail

An unknown number of you may have been contacted recently by an Asian callcentre on behalf of a company calling itself "Big Roo". If you have been, well you're not the only one. Big Roo appears to be taking advantage of the demise of Yellow and White Pages to try and position itself as a sort of online replacement. (Newsflash - we have one. It's called "Google".) So far its marketing efforts seem to be based around cold-calling businesses to thank them for being listed with Big Roo ("what? I never signed up for anything...") and offering them a great deal on upgrading that listing to a paid listing for only a ridiculously large amount of money. They must be really grateful for us being listed with them without our knowledge or consent, because they called us three times to thank us. Oh, and to offer us a great deal on upgrading that listing we knew nothing about to a paid listing for only a ridiculously large amount of money. Even though we said no the first time and requested that they not call us again. Like I said, they must be really grateful :)

If you, like many others, have been called by an Asian callcentre on behalf of "Big Roo" you should ask yourself, "Is this the sort of outfit I want to deal with?" So watch out!
